    Start-Up, episode 1 recap

Everyone is celebrating as they watch the holographic images that were seen in the sky, people are enjoying the colorful displays in the darkness of the night, it is to celebrate the success of SandBox, a high-tech company that helps aspiring entrepreneurs.

We cut to Han Ji-Pyeong who is talking to his AI friend named Yeong-Sil. While he's working out, Yeong-Sil announces his schedule for the day, Yeong-Sil said that he has a start-up relay lecture at 2pm. He asked Yeong-Sil about the weather but Yeong-Sil talk about his fortune instead, he irritatingly repeated his question but Yeong-Sil continues to tell that he will run into someone that he met briefly in the past that will bring breeze into his peaceful life.

Meanwhile, Dal-Mi is also attending the Start-Up relay, she went to the comfort room, took her marker out, and started shading her shoes to hide scratches in them. She now lifts up her head and went out with confidence, she checks her phone and saw her sister's latest post that says that she already landed in Korea.

The Star-Up Relay started with Han Ji Pyeong and In Jae as the speakers, they were sitting on the stage along with the Sand Box's CEO.

One of the audiences ask In Jae about her opinion on those who say that she did not even start at SandBox and only become successful because her father is rich, In Jae smirk and turns to ask the CEO why did she name it SandBox again and the CEO smiled and told them that they've all seen sandboxes in the playgrounds and it prevents the children from getting hurt and that's where it came from because SandBox wants to protect the entrepreneurs from getting hurt even if they fall, In Jae said that if she will join SandBox when her father is rich she would be shameless that made everyone laugh aside from Dal-mi.

When the next person stands to raise a question, Dal-Mi suddenly grabs the mic and asked In Jae if she ever made any selfish decision in her life and called her Seo In Jae instead of Won In Jae. Everyone was confused and In Jae was taken aback upon seeing Dal-Mi but she quickly recovers and confidently answered that of course, she did because she's only human, and Dal-Mi might call that decision greedy but for In Jae, it was a desperate one, she also corrects Dal-Mi and said that her name is Won In Jae.

[flashback 15 years ago]

In-Jae is gently wiping the music box her dad gave her while Dal-Mi is happily humming while she put on her socks, In Jae turns to her and smile, she told her to stop playing DDR so she won't get holes in her socks, Dal-Mi just noticed the hole in it and quickly replace with her other socks, Dal-Mi told In Jae to play together but In Jae said that she like pump better than DDR and Dal-Mi said that she'll play pump instead. they were interrupted by the noise of their parents fighting, their dad wants to quit his job and starts a business on his own but their mom firmly refused and asked for a divorce.

Dal-Mi and In-Jae went to their grandma's hotdog store and told her about their parent's divorce, they asked their grandma to talk to their dad but her grandma told them that if their dad listens to her then he wouldn't have married their mother, she suddenly remembers that one of the kids behind Dal-Mi and In Jae asked her to give a love letter to In Jae but In Jae coldly stares at the kid who wrote her a letter and told her grandma to just throw it away. Meanwhile, Han Ji Pyeong is standing in front of the hotdog store and looks at the money he saved and thinks about whether he will buy a hotdog to ease his hunger or not when Ms. Choi notices him and asked if what does he want but he quickly hides his money and said that he's not hungry and walks out.

In-Jae saw her dad from afar leaving for work and she immediately said goodbye to her grandma and takes Dal-Mi with her, they ride the next bus and followed their dad to work because they want to convince him not to quit his job so their mom won't divorce him, they hide in an empty room and saw their dad get beaten up by his boss.

When they went home, they immediately told their mom what happened to convince her to not divorce their dad but instead of being concerned their mom asked how much would their dad's boss pay for the settlement, Dal-Mi couldn't believe her mom and told her that money is not important now but her mom shouted that of course money is important to pay for their tuition and school trips, their mom said that their dad should earn money for them because that's his duty as a father, their dad went home and heard what their mom just said, the plastic of chicken slips from his hand that made his presence known, he told his wife to get a divorce as tears starting to fill his eyes.

Mom now asked Dal-Mi and In Jae who would, they choose to live with, Mom or dad?

[Present time]

"Have you ever regretted it?" Dal-Mi asked

"Have I ever regretted it? I have. I mean, I'm only human..."
"That makes me wonder, is the person who made the opposite choice happy now? Do they have regrets?"
"They say whatever choice you make you'll regret it," In Jae said

"There are exceptions," Dal-Mi said

[flashback]

Now we see things from young Han Ji Pyeong's point of view, with a big placard that he won from a virtual competition placed in his bag and an empty stomach he searched everywhere for a cheap place to stay, one of the caretakers saw his certificate and told him to invest with real money because he seems like he has the skills to grow it but he bitterly told him that he has no parents and he's still underage to open an account, the man told him to hang in there because they said you should even pay for hardships when you're young and Han Ji Pyeong turns to look back to him and sarcastically told him to buy his hardship then. he even offered him a discount.

It became dark and Han Ji Pyeong still doesn't find a place to stay, he looks at his big certificate that says he won virtual money and throws it in the trash because he finds it useless, it suddenly started raining and Han Ji Pyeong went back for the placard so he could put it on his head, Ms. Choi suddenly shows up and told Han Ji Pyeong that he could sleep in her store and Han Ji Pyeong firmly said that he doesn't need her help but Ms, Choice can see through Han Ji Pyeong and told him where did she place her keys before she leaves, Han Ji Pyeong is left with no choice but to accept help from a stranger, he went inside the store and see that there is also a meal prepared for him, he quickly digs into the food and after eating he saw a jar near him full of money...

The next morning, Ms. Choi remembers the jar of money she left in the store and rushes thinking that the stranger she lets there might've stolen it, she quickly regrets being suspicious to Han Ji Pyeong when she saw the jar with the money still in it, Han Ji Pyeong appeared and told her that he got actually tempted to run away with and told Ms. Choi that she shouldn't leave that huge amount of money and put it on the bank instead, Ms. Choi called him a good boy which irritated him but he still helped Ms. Choi to put her money to the bank and Ms. Choi gave him the bank card because she doesn't know much about banks and cards, Han Ji Pyeong asked why she just easily give him her bank card, what if he withdraws all her money and stole it but Ms. Choi just laugh and told him that he's a good boy that's why. Han Ji Pyeong remembered what the caretaker once told him, to invest real money because he has the skill to grow it, and he convinced Ms. Choi to why not open another account.

After her parents get divorced and her sister left to be with her mom, poor Dal-Mi runs over to her grandma crying and told her that she's all alone now.

Ms. Choi is desperate to cheer up her grandaughter Dal-Mi, she thought that maybe a friend would make Dal-Mi feel better and she had the idea of creating an imaginary friend for Dal-Mi and asked Han Ji Pyeong for help, she asked Han Ji Pyeong to write letters for Dal-Mi and they needed to come up with a name that sounds smart, kind and well-off and Han Ji Pyeong took out a newspaper and saw the youngest mathematics olympiad winner named Nam Do-San.

Dal-Mi was thrilled to receive a letter from a kid named Nam Do-San, she rushes to her father and excitedly told him about the letter.

Dal-Mi immediately writes a response and ask her father to put it in the bird's house where "Nam Do-San" told her to put her letter but Chung Myung directly gave the letter to his mother because he knows that Ms. Choi is the one who writes the letters and he thanked her because her letter really cheered up Dal-Mi, he told his mom that he just needs a year and promised to give her a building once his business succeed.

Dal-Mi is walking around handing brochures of their business with his dad, they look happy as they work so hard together. Dal-Mi and In-Jae still always find a way to see each other, they started meeting happily sharing ice cream until In-Jae started to slowly change and become colder towards Dal Mi and the letters from Nam Do San that Han Ji Pyeong actually writes is what giving her comfort.

Until one day, In Jae told Dal-Mi that their mom got re-married and Dal-Mi was furious because her dad has been working hard to build his business so they could bring mom and In-Jae back but In-Jae told Dal-Mi that she hates how their dad tries so hard when he could just live his life and move on, she even told Dal-Mi that she's sick of the fried chicken their dad always bring home, she's tired pretending that she likes and Dal-Mi couldn't help her tears from falling upon hearing her sister while In-Jae just coldly stares at her and told her that they will be flying to the US tomorrow and she's not Dal-Mi's sister anymore, she even throws the music box her dad gave her that made Dal-Mi so angry and grab her hair.

Back to the present

In Jae and Dal-Mi is sitting across from each other as they sarcastically tease about each other's lifestyle, In-Jae assumed that Dal-Mi is still living off their grandma but Dal-Mi told her that she's planning to create a business, not unlike In Jae who just become successful because of her step-dad but In Jae just smirk over Dal-Mi's remark and didn't deny it at all, she told Dal-Mi that business is hard and she should have a partner that's when Dal-Mi remembered the kid who used to write to her named Nam Do-San and created a fake scenario that she and Nam Do-San will start a business together but In Jae noticed the scratches from Dal Mi's heels that she tried to cover with a marker, she invited Dal-Mi to attend their company exhibit on Friday and bring Nam Do-San with her but Dal-Mi immediately turn down the offer and told In Jae that Nam Do-San doesn't like those kind of events that made In Jae's suspicions got stronger that's why when she's about to leave she thanked Dal-Mi for showing her the "other choice" because Dal-Mi obviously just invented Nam Do-San now In Jae thinks that she did the right thing, Dal-Mi got irritated and chase after In Jae's car just to ask In Jae what time and where does the exhibit will be held...

Now she regrets telling In Jae that she will go to the exhibit with Nam Do-San when she didn't even know if that kid really exists. She is sitting at a bus stop acting crazy because of the decision she made, Han Ji Pyeong happened to pass by the area and saw a weird lady at the bus stop, he got curious that he unconsciously stayed there just to watch her until he's already smiling because he finds her adorable, he followed Dal-Mi and didn't expect to see her go to a hotdog stall owned by his old friend, Mrs. Choi.

[flashback]

Han Ji Pyeong is now going to college that's why he tries to withdraw the money he earned from investing but it turns out that the account is already closed, he rushes to Mrs. Choi only to see her giving a bag of money to her son. Chung Myung didn't want to accept the money but Mrs. Choi told him that she wasn't giving it to him but it was an investment instead.

Chung Myung didn't have time to discussed things with his mother because he received an urgent call from his possible investors, he rushes to meet the investors but got into an accident, his head and nose were bleeding but he's too desperate that he just left the scene and went straight to meet his investors, His presentation went well and the investors told him that they are willing to invest that take Chung Myung into tears because after working hard with Dal-Mi they finally have investors. His nose started bleeding but told the investors that he was just too happy that his nose started bleeding.

Han Ji Pyeong furiously went inside Mrs. Choi's store to take his things and storm outside completely ignoring Mrs. Choi whose just standing outside, Han Ji Pyeong shouted at Mrs. Choi and told her that he saw her gave his money to his son, Han Ji Pyeong was too furious that he started telling Mrs. Choi things that he doesn't even mean, Mrs. Choi just stayed quiet and went inside, she comes back out holding a bigger bag of money and hand it to Han Ji Pyeong, She told Han Ji Pyeong that the money she gave her son is her own money and Han Ji Pyeong looked stunned, he looks like he immediately regrets what he said but it was too late that's why he turns his back and left.

Meanwhile, young Dal-Mi talks to her dad on the phone after that encounter with In Jae, her dad told her the good news as tears start to form in his eyes because of too much joy, he told Dal-Mi to imagine a world where phones can be used to video call or even shop and Dal-Mi believes that her dad will succeed. Chung Myung felt bothered because Dal-Mi sounds sad and asked her what does she want but Dal-Mi just told him that fried chicken is all she wants and repeatedly told him that she loves her.

Chung Myung and the CEO happened to ride the same elevator, The CEO told Chung Myung that it must be really hard to be a businessman because Chung Myung's nose keeps on bleeding, Chung Myung totally agreed and told her that if he could just fall into the sand rather than cold concrete and the CEO doesn't seem to understand and Chung Myung explained that it came from his daughter because Dal-Mi keeps on falling on the ground every time she rides the swing and one day she told her dad to put sand underneath the swing so she wouldn't get hurt every time she falls.

Mrs. Choi followed Han Ji Pyeong to the bus stop and gave him the sneakers she bought for him because she couldn't let him go wearing his worn-out shoes, Han Ji Pyeong told Mrs. Choi that he will pay her but Mrs. Choi told him not to call her if he's successful and is living a good life but rather call her is he's having a hard time and he doesn't have a place to stay when it's raining, Han Ji Pyeong couldn't help but cry when the bus arrived Han Ji Pyeong was about to enter the bus but turns back and gave Mrs. Choi a warm hug.

Chung Myung started having a seizure when he rides the bus but the people who saw him thinks that he was just drunk, not aware of the accident earlier, the passengers arrived at their bus stops while unconscious Chung Myung is left alone in the bus with the bag of fried chicken that already slipped from his hand, he looks like he was just sleeping but his already dead.

"That spring, everyone, and everything seemed to be leaving me."

"without your letters, what would that spring have meant to me?"

"I would have grieved over fallen flowers..."

"rather than enjoying the flowers in bloom"

"the only thing I remember from that spring would have been losing the person I love more than anyone"

"without even getting to say goodbye"

"Thank you for being there for me that spring"

"Thank you for your letters, Nam Do-San" Dal-Mi wrote after 15 years

We then follow the fallen cherry blossom blowing in the wind and went down to Han Ji Pyeong approaching Mrs. Choi... "Good boy?" Mrs. Choi said and immediately recognized Han Ji Pyeong, she looked worried but he told her that he's okay and there's nothing wrong but despite that they share a warm embrace.

Now the petal was blown to the NamSan Tech which is led by the actual Nam Do-San.
