People who can't say goodbye, episode 8 recap
A short flashback to the year 2016, when Yu-ri just died and Geun Sang, Hyun Jung, and Gang Hwa is still coping with their grief differently. Geun Sang felt sad after receiving the results of his application for a summer condo to share with Gang Hwa and Yu-ri.
Hyun Jung is writing a social media post about Yu-ri as she couldn't help but drop her head and cry.
Yu-ri's mother is keeping herself busy by cleaning and playing games so she wouldn't have time to grieve.
[flashback to the year 2016]
And Gang Hwa tries his best to continue living as he narrates that "Some may turn a blind eye to the grief to protect themselves and to survive from this unbearable parting. But turning a blind eye to the passing of time cannot help you overcome this sadness.”
[Back to present]
The four is confusedly looking at each other, Gang Hwa is especially puzzled to see Min Jung and Yu-ri together under the same umbrella as well as Yu-ri seeing Pil Seung with her ex-husband in the same situation.
"Nosebleed," Pil Seung said pertaining to Yu-ri and suddenly turns to switch to Yu-ri's umbrella leaving Gang Hwa surprised because they knew each other. Min Jung went to Gang Hwa's umbrella as well and Yu-ri leaves in a hurry to avoid the awkward situation and take Pil Seung with her.
Yu-ri left Pil Seung at the same convenient store he went from, He tries to tease Yu-ri but Yu-ri just scolded him and told him to clean his apartment.
Meanwhile, Gang Hwa asked Min Jung why she is with Yu-ri because he wasn't used to seeing Min Jung with other mothers because Gang Hwa knows how Min Jung hates it but she is even laughing with Yu-ri. Min Jung didn't realize it either that she's slowly getting fond of Yu-ri because of all the times that Yu-ri has been nice to her and Yu-ri even told her that she's nice which she thinks that she's not. She told Gang Hwa that she already decided that she wants Yu-ri to be Seo Woo's pick-up helper and Gang Hwa agrees.
[Misaeng]
But Gang Hwa quickly regrets it when he went to Hyun Jung's bar, Geun Sang couldn't believe that Gang Hwa agreed to Min Jung's idea of Yu-ri being Seo Woo's pick up helper but Hyun Jung understands that Gang Hwa can't say no because it's what Yu-ri wants. Geun Sang suggested inviting Yu-ri there so they could all sit down and talk but Hyun and Gang Hwa knows that Yuri wouldn't come because she keeps avoiding Gang Hwa because of Min Jung.
Gang Hwa also mentioned that Yu-ri told Min Jung that she was a nice person that made Hyun Jung more suspicious that Yu-ri really knows Min Jung. Gang Hwa told them that he really wants to come clean with Min Jung and take Seo Woo to Yu-ri but Yu-ri asked him to wait that's why he has no choice but to do exactly that.
When Gang Hwa went out of the bar, Hyun Jung follows him and asked about his relationship with Min Jung, she couldn't help but ask him directly if Min Jung wants a divorce but she just sounded ridiculous to Gang Hwa. He told Hyun Jung that he couldn't look Min Jung in the eye lately because things really get weird since Yu-ri came back. Gang Hwa also opens up about Seo Woo's development results and Hyun Jung scolded him for telling Min Jung not to worry about it because being too considerate doesn't help.
[Yu-ri's parents home]
Yu-ri continues to send packages of milk and vitamins for her family and her mother couldn't help but be reminded when Yu-ri was still alive, she used to scold Yu-ri for sending her supplements for her weak knees and told Yu-ri to just keep the money but now that Yu-ri is gone, she drinks the milk and supplement from unknown stranger remembering her daughter.
She felt sad and tries to distract herself again with games but it doesn't work anymore that's why she grabs her key to her bicycle and went out to go to the park.
[At the park]
Yu-ri was also walking at the park unaware that her mother is just sitting at the bench near her.
While her mother sits at the same spot she used to sit earlier watching a family consists of a grandmother, mother, and her daughter.
[At the hospital]
In an attempt to avoid the future situation of seeing Yu-ri in their home as Seo Woo's pick-up helper, Gang Hwa asked if he could be assigned to Africa that just made the nurses and Geun Sang laugh because of how ridiculous he sounds but as Geun Sang laugh at his friend's silliness he wasn't aware he has ghost problems on his own because Sang Bong still lingers around him. Geun Sang and the nurses also happened to talk about Sang Bong because he visited the hospital once and they could easily tell that Sang Bong wasn't the type to kill himself and Geun Sang said that his death was indeed a mystery.
[Outside the daycare]
Yu-ri sensed a ghost that lingers around the Kindergarten, she quickly put out one of her talismans to protect her daughter but it happened to be Pan Seok who was visiting because her daughter is one of the teachers in the daycare. Yu-ri explained why she acted that way and Pan Seok understands and said that he doesn't know that it wasn't good for kids and he wouldn't;t visit the daycare anymore.
Yu-ri congratulates Pan Seok because his daughter is getting married but Pan Seok is worried because his daughter looks sad and he wonders if it because he couldn't attend her wedding and walk her down the aisle now that he's dead.
[Outside the temple]
“The dead child is too concerned with her mother to leave this world… She cries every day because of her mom…” a shaman told Yu-ri's mom as soon as she went out of the temple and it turned out to be Gen Sang's aunt. She offered Yu-ri's mother a Talisman but Ms. Mi-dong suddenly appears and scolded her, she told Yu-ri's mom not to mind what the shaman told her but she continued saying "“Her daughter’s not crying, she’s just roaming around everywhere.” and quickly regrets it.
Yu-ri's mom looks unaffected but she looks shaken when she gets home.
Yu-ri went out with her co-workers in the daycare including Pan Seok's daughter. Everyone is laughing and joking but Pn Seok's daughter looks melancholy, everyone notices her sadness but instead of opening up she drank until she's drunk. She starts crying and everyone asks if it's because her father wouldn't be at her wedding but she continues crying and told them that it wasn't the reason.
She later opened up to Yu-ri and told her that it was because she pities her poor father because everyone will pity him at the wedding because he works hard his whole life but he wasn't lucky enough to live and see her daughter get married. Pan Seok was also there watching her poor daughter cry and he couldn't do anything to comfort her.
[At the hospital]
Meanwhile, the grandma ghost went to see her daughter at the hospital and she saw her at the chapel, she was crying in her husband's arms and confessed that she tolerates the pain because every time she feels the pain she remembers her poor mother.
Because before her mother dies, she asked her to wake up and say anything and her mother's last word is "It hurts" now she realized the pain that her mother go through when she insisted on getting all possible treatment just for her mother to stay a little longer and she plans to endure the same pain she put her mother through.
[Columbarium]
Yu-ri takes the news of Pan Seok's daughter getting married at the Columbarium and everyone gets gloomy after hearing the reason why Pan Seok's daughter looks sad when she once visited Pan Seok at the Columbarium. Pan Seok found Yu-ri at the Columbarium and asked if he could have his favor now.
The next day, Pan Seok's daughter came to visit him at the Columbarium and found a letter written by her father that says “To my brightest jewel, it’s okay. It’s no big deal.” that put Pan Seok's daughter into tears.
[At the wedding]
The ghosts followed Yu-ri at the wedding and told her that they were there to support Pan Seok, Yu-ri, and the other ghost watch Pan Seok walks her daughter in the aisle even if she wasn't aware that he's there. They watch him smile widely as she walks side by side with his daughter as a proud father.
Yuri overhears Pan-Seok's old friends at the other table. Rather than pity for their friend, they can only admire the thoughtful, kind, and beautiful daughter he raised that made Yu-ri smile.
[Misaeng]
Ms. Mi dong was worried about how to tell Yu-ri about her encounter with her mother earlier, she asked Yu-ri to come over but Yu-ri told her that she's hungry that's why Ms. Mi dong should go to her instead.
Hyun Jung was surprised to meet Yu-ri's shaman friend. Yu-ri tried to make an alibi and told Hyun Jung that she approached Ms. Mi-dong when she came back to life to find some answers and Hyun Jung looks convinced because she even asked Ms. Mi-dong about what really happened to Yu-ri but Ms. Mi-dong told her that she's still working on it and it really happens sometimes.
Yu-ri asked Hyun Jung for stir-fried pork and mung bean sprout and Hyun Jung left to go to the market to pick up some ingredients and Ms. Mi-dong take the opportunity to tell Yu-ri about her encounter with her mother and Yu-ri wasn't please to hear it.
[Yu-ri's parents home]
At Yu-ri's parent's house, her mother found out that her husband is secretly visiting Seo Woo when she needed to use her husband's phone and saw the pictures from when her husband volunteer at the daycare to play with Seo Woo. She confronted her husband and her husband tries to reason out that he just really miss his grandchild and Yu-ri's mom told him that they shouldn't confused Seo Woo because she thinks that Min Jung is her mom, she cried as she repeatedly hit her chest saying that she missed Seo Woo too.
Back at Misaeng, Yu-ri scolded Ms. Mi-dong for telling such a thing to her mom who is still hurting because of her and Ms. Mi-dong told her to why nit just take her place back so she wouldn't have to disappear and take her life back, Hyun Jung happens to return and hear what Ms. Mi-dong said. She tries to call Gang Hwa but Yu-ri stopped her and told her that Seo Woo is sick because of her, she just wanted to protect Seo Woo and quietly disappear but Hyun Jung couldn't accept it and told Yu-ri to just take her place back.
"He loves her!" Yu-ri cried, they are both crying because Hyun Jung desperately wants to save Yu-ri from disappearing again but Yu-ri couldn't hurt Gang Hwa and Min Jung just to take her life back.
As Yu-ri collapse while crying on the ground, Hyun Jung tries to comfort her and that's when Yu-ri's mom arrived riding her bicycle just like she usually do when she's sad and she fell out of her bicycle while trying to look at Yu-ri's face and she couldn't believe her own eyes when she confirmed that it was indeed her dead daughter, Yu-ri.
