Se-ri and Captain Ri's Plan to Europe, Episode 5 Recap

Our Se-ri went missing in the marketplace, but when Captain Ri heard that she’s lost, he hurriedly buys a candle and holds it up high so that she can easily find him. When they found each other, he jokes that it’s a scented candle this time, and they both smile in relief. They decided to walk home, she admits that he somehow made her heart flutter a little back there.

With Seri being candid with her feelings, Captain Ri decided to say the truth to Se-ri. 

The truth that he has a real fiance. Seri was visibly taken aback at the news. To say the least, she never expected it. But she forced herself to be normal by acting offended by the implication that she has feelings for him, and she insists that she doesn’t have any. 

Ri told Se-ri that it won’t mess their plans because his fiancée is studying in Russia at the moment. 

In the village.. 

The two villagers, Wol-sook and Ok-geum sees Dan in front of the house and asked her what she was doing there. Dan said that she’s waiting for Captain Ri, and that she was his fiancée. They were shocked but since they knew that Se-ri is being the Captain's fiancee, they just ignored her and left.

However, as soon as they near the house, Seri and Captain Ri both saw Dan standing alone in front of the latter's house and Se-ri knew immediately who she was. The man on her side strode forward to where the lady is and began talking to her. And as Seri drew near, Dan purposely ignored her and tells Ri that she came to pick up her uncle’s car and he insisted on driving her home since it’s already late.

They saw Dan waiting outside Captain Ri's house.

He explains that they are carrying out a mission, and they won’t have to see each other again when it’s over. Se-ri hurriedly backs him up and told her about division 11, but Dan said that she doesn’t care. As the car drives away, she noticed that Ri keeps on checking the rearview mirror worriedly. They talk about their relationship and Dan called her mother to tell her that she will be dropped off by Captain Ri.

Captain Ri's can't help but look at the rearview mirror to see if Se-ri is already inside.

Meanwhile at Captain Ri's house

Gathering at Captain Ri’s house. Se-ri gets excited whenever she heard sounds as if someone was entering his home, thinking that it’s Ri. However, to her dismay, the village wives showed up with snacks and beer hoping to comfort her. Seri hid her disappointment and gracefully followed the women inside Ri's home. 

They all drank and gossiped about the Captain. They thought that Captain Ri is cheating on her and having two fiancées, also they are decided that Dan has no morals.

Young-ae said that she’s going to make sure that her husband won’t promote Captain Ri, and hearing that Se-ri knows that she has to do something. She then, tells that Ri and Dan’s engagement was arranged by their parents and that her relationship with Ri is like Romeo and Juliet's love story.

As the village wives are about to go home, Young-ae tells Se-ri to not hesitate to ask if she needs any help regarding their relationship with Captain Ri to which Seri grudgingly accepted. 

At Captain Ri’s Parent’s house.

Captain Ri went to his parents and saw the ostrich guarding at the entrance of his parent's large estate. His father said that he wants Ri to marry Dan within the year, and he did not hesitate and agrees right away but said that he has a favor to ask in exchange.

He asks his father to help Se-ri to join the International Track team.

The next morning in Captain Ri’s house.

Captain Ri finally returns home, and he saw Se-ri who’s he finds suspiciously calm. She lined up an empty beer can across the floor and tells him not to cross the line and there won’t be a war. But he explains that he’s been setting up a way for her to get out of North Korea.

The plan is she will become a reserve member of the international track team, travel them to Europe, then go missing and make her way home to South Kore. Unfortunately, Man-bok is still listening and heard every word of their plan.

AT THE SAME TIME

Of course, Se-ri will be needing a passport, she has to get a North Korean hairstyle for the photo. All of the options are at least 20 years out of style and she chooses the one less embarrassing. The ladies take her to the market to shop for clothes, but she eventually realizes that she has no money.

They went to the pawnbroker and pawns her watch, she expects that the equivalent of her watch is big but unfortunately, it’s just a few dollars. She noticed another limited edition, watch for sale and the pawnbroker says that a man pawned it many years ago but never returned for it.

Man-bok reports the plan of Captain Ri and Se-ri to Chul-Kang, including the fact that they need to go to Pyongyang in order to get her a passport. He believes that it might be a plan formed by Divison 11, but Chul-kang knew that Se-ri’s does not belong in Division 11.

But Chul-kang already knew that Se-ri is not a member of Division 11.

After that..

When Captain Ri gets to the base for the training, he noticed that his troops are nowhere to be found and was informed that they were all summoned to the State Security Department. Chul-kang confronts En-dong and tells him that whoever tells him the truth first will survive, but he is very clever and said that “it’s been a while since we were brought here”. Chul-kang must have already questioned everyone but still does not get what he wanted.

Captain Ri storms in and snarls at Chul-kang to ask him directly if there’s something that he wants to know, and don’t targert his troops. Chul-kang says he won’t tell the truth, but Ri retorts that only the person involved can tell the truth, so it’s time for Chul-kang to go tell the truth about his own actions. 

Just then, the senior colonel calls Chul-kang to ask why he’s received an official request from the State Security Department, who want to speak to him and Chul-kang about the recent truck accident. 

While Chul-kang is on the phone, Captain Ri and his troops storm out.

Later that incident..

Captain Ri brings the battered and bruised troops home for ramyun. Se-ri apologizes to them and says she wants to give them all a gift and then throws finger-hearts at them.  

As Ri walks them back to their barracks, they decide it must not mean romantic love like they assumed, he looks so put out. 

The next morning..

Jung-hyuk and Se-ri take the train to Pyongyang the next day to have her photo taken for her passport. The train has a power outrage and stops right in the middle of tracks and it could take up to sixteen hours to repair.

In the night, he sets up a little camp for the both of them, since there’s no heat on the train and at least they can build a fire outside. He buys some blankets when Se-ri bats her eyelashes at him, and some corn to roast when she gets hungry. She then burns her finger by picking up a hot potato he sighs and stars peeling for her.

Captain Ri admits that he hasn’t really thought about it because he gets disappointed when things don’t go as he plans and hopes. Se-ri says that “sometimes the wrong train, takes you to the right station”.

And she jokingly said that she had taken a wrong train that's why she's in North Korea right now.

Arrival at Pyongyang..

After some time, they finally got to Pyongyang, and She enjoys looking around at the unfamiliar city. After getting her passport photo taken, she suggests that they should have a photo together for remembrance, he then burst cut her off saying that they have no reasons to remember each other though.

Sueng-joon and Se-ri unexpectedly ran to each other and told her that he asked her brother about her but said that she’s dead already. Se-ri walks away but Sueng-joon grabbed her hand and pulls her into an elevator.

He says that he may not die after all while grinning, Se-ri stammers while shocked at what he just said but then there was a hand that stopped the elevator door from closing.

 It’s Captain Ri, who saw them while still holding hands.

"Sometimes the wrong train takes you in the right direction. It was like that for me, too. Throughout my life, I always felt like I was on the wrong train. One time, I wanted to give up. I didn't want to go anywhere. So I thought of jumping off the train. Look where I am now. I took the wrong train again, and a very wrong one at that. Still, you should think about the future, even if things don't go as you wish. I hope you arrive at the right station, no matter which train you take."
