Selina Gomez; on not being herself and cancelled some of her tours

Selina Gomez

It was less than a year since the Hollywood A-lister Selina Gomez announced her battle with Lupus, her subsequent album release and her highly successful world tour and not to mention being the reigning queen of Instagram took its toll to the Killed them with kindness songstress. The pop star announced that she was currently on "break" and plans to put her health and happiness on a priority list and decided to cancel some of her scheduled tours.

Sources said that in Selina Gomez's last performance that was held in Auckland, New Zealand, at the end of her Asian tour leg, People magazine, which first reported her statement, quoted an unnamed source saying she "hadn't felt like herself" in the past couple of months and decided to "clear her calendar for the year."

It was in 2015 when a sad story has revealed to the world that the pop singer Selena Gomez is suffering from autoimmune disease lupus since 2010. It was such a sad news because this pop star can offer so much to the music industry and can be an inspiration and good example to a lot of young women around the globe. For such a young age, it must have been difficult to deal with lupus when so much is going on with your life.

Prior to the release of her new album in October 2015, Revival, Selena Gomez revealed in Billboard magazine that her diagnosis with the autoimmune disease lupus was the reason of her break from the spotlight.
"I was diagnosed with lupus, and I've been through chemotherapy. That's what my break was really about. I could've had a stroke," Gomez told the magazine in the cover story that came out.

Selina's revelation gave awareness to the public about the disease Lupus erythematosus in which the human immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal, healthy tissues. The symptoms vary from person to person, and may come and go, and almost everyone with lupus has joint pains and swelling along with fatigue, fever, swollen lymph node and chest pain when taking a deep breath to name a few.

Lupus can develop in any age especially with women who are of childbearing age and scientists are still studying on the reason why Lupus develops particularly on women rather than men but they think that it concerns the hormones.

However, many praises Selina for coming out not just to educate people about lupus but also to address people who fat shamed her specially when pictures of her started coming out in the Internet not having a "perfect body."

"I was nice to everybody, I could not understand why they are so mean to me." Selina's sentiments were valid as she received some nasty and mean comments about her changing figure, "I shut my self away until I was confident enough with myself to face the world."

Typically, the manifestation of the disease tends to be more acute in those affected who are of younger age. However, patients with late onset of Lupus have a much higher mortality rate. Nearly 50% of those with late onset Lupus died of their affliction because the manifestation of their disease is much less severe than younger patients.

Selina Gomez's family is concerned for her health because she never stops, she is always busy and almost working everyday even after her break up with Justin Bieber, she was always concerned about him, revealed her grandfather. Currently she is undergoing chemotherapy and this process needs rest but with her busy schedule specially now that her new album is out, Revival is out and she is busy promoting everyone felt that this is not a good idea.

Chemotherapy, medical experts say, can stop the more aggressive types of lupus very quickly in dosages that are usually less than what cancer patients take. However, Lupus can come and go -- flaring up and then heading into remission, a very unpredictable disease but manageable with proper treatment.

Amidst all this, Selina is coming out strong and she wants to prove to everybody that she is a legit star, that she has talent and her latest album is the proof that she can do better than the tabloids is writing about her that focuses mainly on her body issues. She remain optimistic and loves to live her life and be an inspiration to everybody.

"I've discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges. I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off." Selina said in a statement posted Wednesday on sites of concert venues where she had been due to perform.

But the fans wont be waiting for long because the star is due to resume her "Revival" tour next week in North America, ending on December 18 in Guadalajara, Mexico. Prayers and supports floods for the kind-hearted star.
